This amazing Transformers 30 years anniversary pop up book, Transformers: The Ultimate Pop-Up Universe, made by Matthew Reinhart, is one of the best pop-up books out there at this moment. With more than 35 Autobot and Decepticon pop-ups, this book is a true adventure for everyone. The artwork is amazing and fits the pop-ups perfectly. This book has a very high quality finish, solid pop-ups and surprising effects that give depth to the experience reading this book.

With a personal note on the back, this creation by Matthew Reinhart gives you the idea that the author is sincerely proud of the result. And he should be!

“Dedicated to my sister Erin, who’s endured (and supported) my enthusiasm for “robots in disguise” since 1984 – I love you. – M.R.”

This is a true homage to the Transformers franchise and a must-have for every fan. This is a pull and flip pop-up book. As we have seen in other pop-up books, a technique in which artwork turns and transforms the subject. This specific technique is mostly used as a base for the pop-ups in this book. Despite that, these pop- ups are of a higher level. Pop-ups transform, animate and melt together in the amazing artwork by pulling the tabs. It’s a combination of classic techniques that takes paper engineering to a whole new level and sets the bar high for the next generation pop-up books.

Merge, pop, pull and transform

More important,  Matthew Reinhart has managed to make a combination of both folding and pulling pop-up techniques. It’s amazing to fold-out a spread with a complete army tank (Decepticon Brawl) and let it turn into a Transformers robot by pulling the tab. Every spread in this book is impressive to open. You will also find one of the biggest hemispherical domes ever shown in a pop-up book, planet Cybertron,  that reveals as a battle on earth scene after pulling the handle. Also an impressive transformation of Optimus Prime and one of the biggest pop-up figures we’ve ever seen in the guise of Omega Supreme. Packed with lots of tiny transformation pop-ups on the side of each page, this book is the effort to take the time to read, enjoy and share with your friends. An experience they won’t ever forget.

Not just a Transformers Pop-Up Book

The additional information is just as fascinating as the artwork. This interactive pop-up adventure is top quality in both artwork and story telling. It’s completely in style with the Transformers series and feels like reading a classic comic book. As far as possible, this gives even more depth to the book.
