We’re very excited about this one and we’re just in time to share it with you for Halloween! We’ve got some exclusive sneak peeks of the upcoming The Nightmare before Christmas pop-up book, the very first holiday pop-up title created by Matthew Reinhart. Matthew shared some color studies of the artwork and as always, it looks amazing. Although this pop-up book is currently in progress, this sneak peek gives us an impression of the illustration style that will be used.

“I do have a different sort of Christmas title in the works for Fall 2018… but with a monstrous twist. I cannot WAIT to get to work on it. “

Matthew Reinhart

This title can be added to the ever growing list of Disney pop-up books created by Matthew Reinhart. We’ve already seen (and reviewed) beautiful Disney pop-up books by Matthew Reinhart like Frozen and Disney Princess and with the Pixar Celebration and this Nightmare Before Christmas book on it’s way, the list gets longer and longer. And lets not forget, Matthew is also working on a Mickey Mouse pop-up book that one day can be added to the list too. Oh boy, oh boy!

Matthew Reinhart about The Nightmare Before Christmas pop-up book:

This ghoulish 5-spread, pop-up book, my first ever holiday book by the way, retells Tim Burton’s genre-defining holiday story just in time for its 25th anniversary. There’s a lot of new, strange directions I’m going with the paper engineering and artwork, which I’m very happy about!Personally, this is one of those projects close to my heart as an artist – Mr. Burton’s work has been an inspiration even before I dreamed I could be a children’s book author. It’s been a dream – or better yet – a fabulous nightmare!

Below you see a collage with a sketch of Jack Skellington, Sally and Jack’s faithful dog Zero. This collage also contains different color studies that are used to select an illustration style for the book. The artwork already looks and feels like a Tim Burton book, with the thick black sketch lines and sober colors combined with rough brush strokes and textures. Just gorgeous!
