Come along with Mowgli on his adventure through the wild and unpredictable jungle and experience the classic Jungle Book story like never before. True to the original story written by Rudyard Kipling, The Jungle Book: A Pop-up Adventure has been beautifully retold in this classic and collectible pop-up book created by paper engineer Matthew Reinhart.

This well engineered and beautifully designed pop-up book is packed with the finest illustrations, colors and textures like we know from Matthew Reinhart’s signature style. We noticed the usage of materials and special details like the animals and their furry coats. Most of the animals in this pop-up book have an extra layer of soft flock material which makes them look and feel like they have real fur. Some pop-ups contain a very nice finishing with hologram foil which adds a great effect to the scene. There’s also running water created from printed acrylic film and a spinning flame used to simulate a burning branch. With a lot of different and complex techniques used, there’s a lot of paper engineering going on in this book.

We were also impressed by the thickness of this giant pop-up book. With six large and extensive pop-up spreads plus a large number of mini pop-ups, this book is one of the thickest in our pop-up book collection. With pop-ups that reach beyond the sky, this book will be the most special and impressive Jungle Book retelling that you have ever seen.

It’s a lot of fun reading this book. Every spread has a dramatic effect because of the way they pop-out. It’s beautifully animated engineering. Explore the very tall ruins of the Lost City with monkeys all over the place. Ride along with Mowgli atop 3D sculpted thundering elephants. Escape a fierce and surprising attack from tiger Shere Khan, jumping out of the page with its sharp paper claws!

The hidden cobra

Two spreads contain a technique that opens up a hidden pop-up. This is how it works: when opening a mini pop-up, you can feel some resistance from the page. You may have to use some force to make both pop-up’s work but once you know it, it’s a matter of holding it at the right place and give it a firm but gentle and solid pull. It’s a great effect to use for a subject like the hidden cobra in the vault of the deserted ruins.

The Jungle Book: A Pop-Up Adventure is absolutely recommended for fans of the story and of course pop-up book collectors. This pop-up book will delight and entertain both young and old and is therefor a premium pop-up title for the whole family that shouldn’t be missing on any (collectors) bookshelf.
